About Robert
As a founder, Black gay activist, and HIV long-term survivor, Robert brings a unique and powerful perspective to his advocacy with more than a decade of experience.
Robert's journey began with a deeply personal challenge—an unjust HIV prosecution. This experience not only shaped his path as an activist and storyteller but also ignited his deep commitment to racial justice. Facing unprecedented stigma, Robert challenged the status quo, raising awareness and transforming the national and global landscape of HIV criminalization. His courage and determination have inspired many to come forward and advocate for change.
“I could not have imagined that the end of a consensual relationship would result in felony charges and jail time. That is exactly what happened to me because I’m living with HIV. My life would never be the same.”
Recognizing the widespread impact of HIV criminalization on members of marginalized communities with limited access to healthcare and legal resources, Robert took a proactive approach to establish a groundbreaking initiative.
Robert co-founded The Sero Project to elevate the voices of those directly impacted by HIV criminalization. His strategic efforts have significantly raised the profile of HIV decriminalization on national and international stages, influencing discourse and shaping policies.
Through his consultancy, Robert works closely with leaders and advocacy groups within the HIV and LGBTQ+ communities. He promotes initiatives across various platforms to raise awareness and provide education.
By integrating “lived experience” into his approach, Robert helps clients develop resonant strategies that drive social change through engagement, advocacy, and support.
